Marsie Wines is a boutique family winery run by us, Peter and Alisson Marsland. Our vineyard, planted in 1969, is situated on 10 acres on the banks of the Gawler River in South Australia. It boasts three varieties: Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Muscat Gordo Blanco, also known as Muscat of Alexandria.
In 1992, we were looking to buy a new home for us, and our three children. We knew we wanted a property with a bore and were looking for one on the Gawler River. Upon seeing the property for the first time, we knew this was it. It quickly became a sanctuary for both of us, and our children. We knew very little about vines, but a crash course from our lovely neighbours gave us basic knowledge, which over the years we have refined into our own style.
In 2011, rather than selling all of our grapes to a well known Barossa winery, we decided to create our own label. We were so proud of the quality of that first vintage that we were hooked, hence the birth of Marsie Wines.
We don’t plough, instead we mow the middle of the row allowing the pruning sticks and grass to become mulch on top of the soil. We apply just enough water for our vines to be healthy, steer clear of insecticides and use minimal sprays for mildews resulting in vines that grow and flourish beautifully.
All of our grapes are handpicked by our family and friends and a few helpers, and the hand pruning is done solely by ourselves. We pick at optimum ripeness and are delighted with the rich and full bodied flavour of our wines. Our wines are not blended and are matured in oak barrels for approximately 18 months before bottling. We produce a genuine single vineyard wine, and we think our personal interaction with each and every vine is what makes our wine great.
We love Marsie Wines because it is us – it is full of love and care, and we want nothing more than for people to drink our wine and love it. We hope you do. We know you will…
